 Alan Rickman was born on February 21, 1946, in Hammersmith, London. He was the second of four children, and his parents were both working-class factory workers. Despite his humble beginnings, Rickman showed an early interest in the arts, and after graduating from Chelsea College of Art and Design, he pursued a career in acting.
After honing his craft on stage and in various British television roles, Rickman burst onto the international scene with his unforgettable portrayal of Hans Gruber in the 1988 action-thriller "Die Hard". This breakout role catapulted Rickman to stardom and opened doors for him to take on a variety of diverse and challenging roles.


Over the course of his career, Rickman went on to star in numerous iconic films, including "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Sense and Sensibility," "Love Actually," and the Harry Potter series, in which he played the complex character of Severus Snape. He was celebrated for his ability to embody complex characters with nuance and depth, earning praise from both critics and audiences alike.

In addition to his acting, Rickman was also a dedicated philanthropist and advocate for the arts. He served as the honorary president of the International Performers' Aid Trust and was a patron of various theater companies and arts organizations.



Tragically, Rickman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015 and passed away on January 14, 2016, at the age of 69.
